Frequently Asked Questions

Can Rust Be Fixed?
Yes! If you have rust attacking your fixtures we can usually repair the damage with ease. Rust (or oxidation) is a common issue in bathrooms and kitchens due to the common occurrence of water accumulation in the these areas. Rust turns the once strong metal structure into a weakened, brittle form. By removing the rust and applying material to prevent future rusting before refinishing the surface we can make headway into containing the rust problem.  Unfortunately there can be no guarantee that the rust will not eventually work its way back and actually damage the refinished area.  Rust is a lot like a cancer.  You attack and treat what you can find, but sometimes all it takes is a little bit left to eventually come back.  Always be wary of a refinisher who does little or nothing to the rusted areas before resurfacing the fixture. Refinishing right over rust without taking steps to treat it will spell disaster to the refinishing. This leads to costly maintenance down the road and possibly the need for an entirely new refinishing job or the fixture can become so damaged that it has to be replaced.

Choice Resurfacing is proud to offer industry leading cures and procedures for dealing with rusting fixtures.

Why Should I Resurface Instead of Replacing?
The main reason people look into replacing their fixtures is due to the wear and tear to the top layers of the fixture even though the integrity of the actual structure is still strong. Our surface restoration restores your fixtures surfaces, extending their life in most cases for 15+ years to come. Resurfacing a fixture is usually a fraction of the cost of replacement while still achieving the look and feel of a new looking fixture.
What Is Surface Restoration?
Surface Restoration is the solution to the reason many people feel the need to replace their fixtures. Over time the surface layers of fixtures wear down with use eventually leading to unsightly, damaged appearances. While these look bad the underlying structure often retains its integrity. Surface restoration builds off this underlying structure to repair all the wear and tear and provides you with a strong surface for another 15+ years.
Another Company Did Our Fixture - It Went Horribly Wrong - Can You Help Us?
Yes. We commonly repair other resurfacers work further showing us to be the right Choice in Resurfacing providers.

When other companies work fails our staff are more than capable to repair and replace the work, bringing it up to our standard of quality.

Why Do You Take Longer Than Other Refinishers?
We remove caulking, repair any damage to the tub, then bond, primer and spray our coating. We return the next day to buff, polish, put new caulking in and clean up after our self’s. We take the time to make sure you are happy with what you are paying for. We ensure the quality we provide is the best and to accomplish that we don’t

What Do I Clean With?
Non-abrasive cleaners such as 409 or Scrubbing Bubbles and a soft sponge. No bleach, Ajax, soft scrub, CLR, or Lime away.

Is Resurfacing As Hard As Porcelain?
No.  Porcelain is a glass that is fired onto the surface at temperatures around 1600 degrees.  The final finish is hard, and fairly resistant to scratches and of course has no problems with peeling.  That doesn’t mean that it can’t be scratched or it doesn’t chip…it does both.

Resurfacing on the other hand, is the application of a synthetic material onto the existing surface and doesn’t require extreme temperatures in order to cure onto the surface.  While the resultant finish may not be as hard as original porcelain, it is extremely durable.  In most cases, if applied correctly, their is virtually no difference in appearance or feel.

If your refinisher is using quality top-coat materials you can be assured of getting a finish that rivals the look and feel of porcelain.  Cheaper top-coat materials result in duller, less durable finishes. Unfortunately many refinishers ‘shop’ for the cheapest materials and care little for the long term durability of the resultant product.  CHOICE Resurfacing is NOT one of those resurfacers.
